July 25 marks a very important day in the world we live in. That world being craft beer and spirits, of course. It’s Indie Beer Day! While we are still in the middle of a rough time, it’s the simple things that will get us through. So, let’s all have fun and celebrate (COVID-safely) indie beer and the local and wider craft beer industry.
Our country has so much to offer to this industry and it goes to show the resilience of all the brewers and facilitators will win out in the end. Together, we can highlight the importance of Aussie owned and brewed beers – and have fun doing so!
What is Indie Beer?
For those new to the industry or are just curious to find out more about this booming and important industry, here is a run-down by #askforindiebeer of what indie beer really means.
Indie Beer is any beer brewed locally by small to medium sized Australian-owned breweries, most are members of the Independent Brewers Association (IBA). Indie brewers are made up of all sorts of brewers around Australia; from husband and wife teams pouring pints for their local punters, to national breweries giving us choice on bottleshop shelves. They all have one thing in common: the love of great beer.
That’s why this year, Indie Beer Day is the perfect cause for celebration – celebrating the resilience of brewers around the country, celebrating a chance to drink and toast together.

How you can support your local independent brewers
If you find yourself in a lockdown situation, like many Victorians or wont be able to get to your local venue for Indie Beer Day this Saturday, you can still show your support!
Shop Direct: There are independent breweries popping up all over Australia and there’s no better way to show support than buying from them directly.
Buy Online: A lot of indie breweries have created online stores in reaction to the COVID crisis and it’s a great way to support them, with the added bonus of great beer delivered right to your door. You can also find
Shop Indie Bottle Shops: Indie Bottle shops are a huge part of our industry and the staff love Indie Beer as much as you. Next time you’re in, make sure to #ASKFORINDIEBEER.
Visit Supporter Venues: Every venue signed up to support indie beer is doing it because they love great beer and we all know there are few things better than a chat with friends or a good pub feed, alongside an Indie Beer!
Tell your mates: We all love sharing a beer, so next time you support indie grab one for a mate or take them to an event. They probably love indie beer, even if they don’t know it yet.
Crafted Beer & Cider Festival
But wait, there’s more exciting craft beer news in our local area! Hitting the Gold Coast on Saturday September 12th is the Crafted Beer & Cider Festival. There will be much more than just local craft beer. Joining the breweries alongside, will be numerous local food trucks and music, creating the perfect trinity of a good day out. Booze, food, music.
The event will be held in Kurrawa Park, right on the golden sands and clear waters. The event is ticketed and with early bird and first release tickets already being sold out, you better get in quick to secure your spot. Here’s a list of the brewers, foodies and musos to get you keen. You’ll get everything from local legends like Black Hops to Yulli’s Brews from our backyard in Byron.
